Recap: Network & Drink March 2024

The first spring edition of the Network and Drinks event in 2024 united members of the space community for an evening of networking. Attendees had the opportunity to make new connections, listen to pitches, learn about collaboration opportunities, and get updates from NL Space Campus and SBIC Noordwijk.

Updates from NL Space Campus and SBIC Noordwijk

During this gathering, NL Space Campus offered updates about two exciting events that were coming up.

Geo-Data Fusion Hackathon

The first-ever Geo-Data Fusion Hackathon will take place this June. Focusing on 3 real-life challenges, this competition will award its best idea up to €20.000 for a pilot project with the Ministry of Infrastructure & Water Management. Geo-Data Fusion Hackathon invites entrepreneurs, teams, startups, developers, data scientists and -architects, and social innovators, to come together and develop creative solutions using satellite data.  Registration to the hackathon will be open soon, but you can already subscribe to the competition’s notification by leaving your email in the pre-registration on the Hackathon page:

LDE NL Space Campus Summer School 2024

Three weeks after the first announcement, half of the places for the LDE NL Space Campus Summer Space School have already been taken. This intensive and diverse seven-day programme invites bachelor’s and master’s students from different backgrounds to get closer to space. “If you want to know more about space, this is your way to go,” says Maaike Smelter, Community Manager of the NL Space Campus. “You’ll get lectures, projects, company visits, and you will build a really big network for your future career in space.”

Updates from SBIC Noordwijk

SBIC Noordwijk presented their updates, starting from the introduction of their new partners, Masters of Scale. Masters of Scale will be joining the Partners in Residence programme of SBIC Noordwijk. This partnership means that experts from Masters of Scale will be available to the SBIC community at least once a month for 30-minute free-of-charge meetings.

Then, attendees of Network and Drinks were invited to join ‘Strategic Negotiations for Entrepreneurs’ workshop. This event will take place on 25 April, just before the next edition of NL Space Campus Network & Drinks. More information and registration is available via the link (Click here).

Finally, another update from SBIC Noordwijk announced the launch of the Ignition Programme, the pre-incubation programme within ESA BIC. More information will be available soon on SBIC Noordwijk’s communication channels.

Ask the Community

Do you want to collaborate with the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (I&W)? During the section ‘Ask the Community’, Rike van Hattem, an International Policy Officer at I&W, answered this question. We will publish the answer in the upcoming days. Keep an eye out on our website, or register for the community updates through this link.

Pitches

The event featured pitches from Ceres Space, TU/E Team VOID and the ESA Spark Hub.

Ceres Space

Being part of the ESA BIC programme, Ceres Space is a startup focused on green propulsion solutions for space exploration. Led by founders Mateusz Lentner, Francesca van Marion, and Thomas Nagy Zambo, the company specialises in using hydrogen peroxide as a sustainable fuel for satellites and spacecraft. The mission of Ceres Space is clear: advancing the future of space exploration through environmentally friendly technology.

VOID

VOID, based at the Technical University of Eindhoven, is a student team of eight passionate volunteers from various backgrounds. VOID aims to create reusable rocket engines for space exploration. By lowering launch expenses, VOID broadening access to space for more nations and organisations. The mission of this team is to allow the next generation of engineers the opportunity to grow themselves in a hands-on manner, all while innovating at the breakneck pace of the industry leaders.

ESA Spark Hub

A new facility at SBIC Noordwijk, Spark Hub, is not only a physical spot for meetings and other collaborative sessions, but also a showcase for the growing collaboration with ESA. The ESA Spark Hub is the place where the ESA Commercialisation Gateway team can be found and reached out to. Connected by Niels Eldering from ESA, the Spark Hub fosters co-creation among startups, ESA members, and stakeholders across Europe. It aims to bring different parts of the space community closer together in Noordwijk.
