Next Thursday, in the first of a series of EOcafes exploring different national contexts, we will examine user uptake strategies and activities in France and the Netherlands, as well as the barriers, success stories and lessons learned that can help strengthen the adoption of Earth Observation (EO) solutions across Europe.
The EARSC 2025 Industry Survey showed a marked increase in the share of revenues generated from local and regional public sector customers, from 6% to 13%. Combined with the 38% represented by national and European public sector customers, national markets therefore represent a significant share of demand and are key to the growth of the EO market. At the same time, over the last few years, we have also seen several European countries investing in national EO constellations, most notably the Italian IRIDE and the joint Spanish-Portuguese Atlantic Constellation.
In this context, national user uptake strategies are particularly relevant and can provide many lessons learned on how to tackle common challenges, whether it be raising awareness among potential users or innovation and procurement support, as well as help identify what additional support may be needed at the European level.
Join our host Geoff Sawyer (EARSC Strategic Advisor and former Secretary General), Coco Antonissen (Director Space Applications, Netherlands Space Agency) and Alexis Foussard (Copernicus and EO Officer, French Ministry of Ecological Transition) to explore how France and the Netherlands are promoting the uptake of EO data and services, and what lessons can be shared with the wider European community.
Some questions that could be addressed during this EOcafe include:
- Who is in charge of user uptake of EO (and Copernicus) data and solutions in your respective countries? How does this fit into the broader (space) agenda?
- What does this include (towards public authorities, commercial users)? Is there any difference between the broader uptake of Copernicus data versus EO data and services from the private sector?
- What are the challenges or barriers to user uptake in your national contexts?
- Have you seen any specific activities or approaches that have successfully supported user uptake?
- How does this link back to the European level? Or to the NCPs from the different Copernicus Services?
- What can we learn from other national contexts? And what role can EARSC play in this context?
Registration: The webinar is open to all. Registration is free but compulsory.
Please note this is a virtual event!
EOcafe is part of a series of EARSC meetings that offer timely, relevant, and practical information on a broad variety of topics related to the EO sector. Join us every month to discuss and network while enjoying a cup of coffee with friends.
