NL Space Campus Community Members Honoured at Geospatial World Forum 2024

Two members of the NL Space Campus have been honoured with prestigious awards at the Geospatial World Forum (GWF) 2024, held at the World Trade Center in Rotterdam from 13-16 May 2024. This recognition highlights the contributions of Space4Good and the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) at the University of Twente to the geospatial industry.

Geospatial World Forum 2024

The Geospatial World Forum is an annual event that brings together geospatial professionals and leaders from public policies, national mapping agencies, private sector enterprises, development organizations, academic institutions, and government businesses. The theme for this yearโ€™s forum was “Geospatial Transition: Powering World Economy,” emphasizing the role of the geospatial industry in facilitating a sustainable economic transition.

Space4Good – Startup of the Year

Space4Good was awarded the Geospatial World Forum Leadership Award for Startup of the Year. Since its establishment in 2017, Space4Good has been recognized for its innovative use of remote sensing, GIS, and artificial intelligence to address complex ecological and social challenges. The jury praised Space4Good for its exceptional contributions to environmental protection, sustainable agroforestry, forest conservation, and peace and justice initiatives. The organizationโ€™s efforts in leveraging space technology for social and environmental good set it apart as a leader in the field.

ICT University Twente – Research, Science & Technology Institution of the Year

The Faculty of ITC at the University of Twente received the Geospatial World Awards Leadership Award in the category of Research, Science & Technology Institution of the Year. This accolade coincided with the launch of ITC’s new lifelong learning platform, Geoversity. The jury recognized ITCโ€™s pioneering and collaborative approach to education and research in geospatial sciences, as well as its efforts to tackle global challenges such as climate change, population growth, food security, water management, and disaster resilience. The juryโ€™s statement highlighted ITCโ€™s significant role in advancing scientific research and technological innovation for societal and environmental benefits.
