After a successful first edition in March, Tech Needs Discovery returns on 5 June with a new focus and a clear message. Non-space companies are invited to bring their technologies to the table.
Organised by the ESA Technology Broker (powered by NL Space Campus and SBIC Noordwijk) in collaboration with Holland High Tech and Hi Delta, this cross-sector event connects space actors with innovators from other industries to address technical challenges together.
Programme Overview
13:00 Walk-in & Network Lunch (optional)
14:00 Introduction & Deep Dive Talks
15:45 Matchmaking
16:45 Networking Drinks
18:00 End of event
Why This Edition Is Different
This time, space companies will present their current technical needs. Non-space companies are invited to respond with ideas, solutions, and new perspectives. The goal is to explore how technologies from outside the space sector can be applied in high-performance environments.
ESA/ESTEC, 4Mars2Earth, and other companies will take part in the event.
The first edition proved that space is not as unreachable as it may seem. Now we are asking a new question. Can Earth-based innovations go to space?
This exchange brings new technical and operational demands, and also new opportunities. Tech Needs Discovery is about finding shared ground between sectors and building long-term collaborations.
You donβt need experience in space β weβre looking for companies developing practical technologies that solve problems in smart or demanding settings. Whether your solution improves efficiency, control, precision, or safety, it could be exactly what a space company is looking for.
Here are two some examples of the kinds of innovations that have already caught attention:
What the Space Industry Is Looking For
Current needs include:
- Additive manufacturing (3D printing)
- Modular robotics
- Engineering and structural design expertise
- Digital innovation, such as software platforms and data systems
- Automotive systems and smart mobility solutions
- Advanced manufacturing technologies
- Smart and functional materials
If your company works in these areas, even outside the space industry, your technology might be a match.
What to expect on 5 June
The event includes focused matchmaking and informal networking. It is designed to support non-space innovators who want to explore new applications for their work, and space companies looking for fresh ideas and capabilities.
A third edition of Tech Needs Discovery is already being planned for September 2025.
