KickstartAI Meetup | AI x Space: Charting the cosmos

December 11, 2025
- December 11, 2025
| 18:00
- 21:00

From discovering distant galaxies to navigating robots on Mars, AI is at the forefront of space exploration. This meetup brings together the researchers and engineers using AI to push the boundaries of science.

We’ll dive into what’s actually happening in the field: how AI is supercharging astronomy and scientific discovery, enabling autonomous navigation and robotics, and managing complex satellite constellations.

Is this for you?
This event is tailored for:

  • Professionals working hands-on with data and AI, with an interest in the technical aspects of modern space exploration.

  • AI practitioners and data scientists curious about space applications.

  • Researchers and engineers working at the intersection of AI and physical sciences.

What’s on the agenda?

Michael Janssen (Assistant Professor of Astrophysics at Radboud University & member of the Event Horizon Telescope Science Board) will present his innovative method of using a neural network, trained on millions of simulated datasets, to overcome observational challenges and successfully extract complex scientific parameters (like spin and magnetic fields) from the Event Horizon Telescope’s data of black holes.

Raj Thilak Rajan (Assistant Professor at TU Delft & Co-Director of the Delft Sensor AI Lab) will discuss how AI is enabling autonomous navigation and sensing in the Lunar Zebro mission (Europe’s smallest and lightest moon rover).
