The VSV Symposium 2026 explores how space technologies translate into real-world applications on Earth. The programme focuses on four thematic pillars: defence, quantum technology, climate, and medicine, highlighting how space-based solutions support security, innovation, sustainability, and health.  

Programme themes

Defence Space plays an increasing role in national security through communication, navigation, and intelligence capabilities. This session addresses both strategic opportunities and emerging vulnerabilities related to space infrastructure. Speaker to be announced. Quantum Satellites enable ultra-precise measurement, secure communication, and global timing, making them a key enabler for quantum technologies. Speaker: Bob Dirks, TNO Climate Earth observation from space supports climate monitoring and long-term impact assessment. This session highlights how satellite data informs operational decisions on the ground. Speaker to be announced, The Ocean Cleanup Medicine Microgravity and increased radiation create unique conditions for biomedical and pharmaceutical research. Space-based experiments are contributing to advances in regenerative medicine, including the growth of human blood vessels.
