Online workshop EGNSS Center of Excellence (CoE)

On 30 March an online session/ workshop was held by the EGNSS Center of Excellence (CoE). Nearly 60 people attended the event. The CoE is well situated in the Space eco-system in Noordwijk with ESA and GRC around the corner. Also it fits nicely with the Vision of the NL Space Campus. The EGNSS Center of Excellence (CoE) is one of the initiatives on the Campus in cooperation with NSO, the Ministry of I&W, CGI, S&T and NLR.

The event kicked off with an introduction of NL Space Campus, followed by European Space Hubs & Centres of Excellence by Wim Ploeg from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, who positioned the Dutch CoE in the European context of Space Hubs and other CoE’s. The need for such a CoE has also been addressed, as society is becoming more and more reliant on GNSS the awareness, impact and risks of GNSS usage require to be considered.

André Bos from S[&]T introduced the recent developments that have been done when it comes to the service definitions of the CoE and took us to the recent status of having two potential viable CoE services:

· Risk and Research Service aiming on monitoring and predicting the risks of usings the GNSS signals in relation to specific applications.

· Test and Qualification Service aiming at providing facilities for testing and eventually qualifying GNSS related equipment.

Both services have been explained in more detail. Alexandra Zevenbergen from CGI showed the first developed tooling for the Risk and Research service. Hein Zelle from NLR did a deep dive on the Test and Qualification service.

After the coffee break two breakouts have been organised to refine the service definitions of the two defined services. Using Mentimeter, hosted by Merle Snijders and Peter Dieleman from NLR, a lot of useful feedback and new insights have been gathered. In both sessions, a nice mix of potential end users and potential contributors attended.

The consolidated wrap-up and highlights from both breakouts have been shared by André in the plenary session. Jeroen Glazener from the NSO finished the day, by explaining NSO supportive role in the CoE initiative from the first study up to the refinement of the business case that is going on now.

The next step is that the project team will finalise the first version of the Risk Map tool and update the business case for both services. This will be done based on further analysis, the outcome of the breakouts and most likely some more interviews that will be scheduled for the next period. The results will be summarised in a report.

See the presentation and Mentimeter questions that were answered during the breakouts.

More results will be presented in the future, see the dedicated EGNSS LinkedIn page: https://www.linkedin.com/compa...
